If you’ve ever felt that you’ve completely lost your focus or are unable to begin a new task no matter how hard you try, you know the dreaded feeling of hitting a mental stop sign. We’ve all been there! It can be hard to recognize at first and even harder to admit after spending hours stuck in neutral.

These tips are designed to help you ‘tune up’ your mind quickly, so you can get back in gear and racing down the road to success!

  1. Work it out. Get up and move, whether that means going for a long run or hitting the gym, or simply taking a leisurely stroll around the neighborhood. Physical activity is not only great for your body, it will release endorphins that help bring your focus back.
  2. Sleep on it. Getting a good night’s sleep is one of the best and easiest ways to refresh a tired brain and reset your mindset. Plus it gives your subconscious mind time to process, ponder, and present a solution.
  3. Change your internal dialog.  If you’re overwhelmed and find yourself saying, “I can’t do this, it’s too hard” or “I’ll never get this project done on time!” that negative self-talk can actually be a self-fulfilling prophecy. Start telling yourself “I can totally do this,” and see how that simple perspective shift can open your mind. Sometimes that’s all it takes.
  4. Change your routine. Take a different way home, eat dinner at a new place you’ve always wanted to try, read a book instead of watching the same old TV show, or rearrange your office. Disrupting your own status quo can be incredibly helpful in changing your viewpoint and helping you see new solutions to stubborn old problems.
  5. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Humans are social creatures and we depend on one another to thrive. By asking for help from a trusted source, you not only benefit from someone else’s objective input, but you are able to provide that person with the opportunity to help solve a problem, which benefits them as well.

Hopefully some of these tips can get you back on the right track! But if you’re still feeling stuck in the mud after putting in your best effort, you can sign up for my Mind Mechanics Course here to learn more valuable ways to find the focus you need to succeed.
